CAROLYN'S FRONT YARD By Cecelia

Carolyn is in our Florida plein air group. She invited us to paint the blooming azaleas in her front and back yard . Ten of us showed up. I chose the white azalea in the front yard, because of the strong morning sunlight and deep shadows, but also because of the sun hitting the long row of tall pines in the background and the large twisting tree in the foreground.

OSPREY NEST By Cecelia

My husband and I took guests on an airboat tour around the Blue Cypress Conservation Area, in Vero Beach, Florida. It was the second time we took this tour, each with different guests. Most riders are interested in whatever wildlife deems to present itself that day. I am mostly interested in the water, grasses, and the surrounding landscape. There are several amazing osprey nests sitting precariously, and yet safely, in barren trees-so beautiful, contrasted with sunny Florida skies and lush grasses, blowing in soft breezes.

WHITE HOUSE ON IMOKOLEE ROAD By Cecelia Lyden

Art Mundo is an art association in Fort Pierce, FLA, that, among other activities, arranges for 3 exceptional plein air opportunities in the area for a small fee.One is at the very large Adams Ranch, which boasts of thousands of acres of cattle fields, tropical plants and wildlife. I attended that last year; and this year I went to this charming Florida home outside of Fort Pierce. Again many, many tropical-like plants, shrubs and flowers. The building, with its many sections and roof lines appealed to me the most. The abundant trees, sunlight and the shadows created were also enticing.

WHITE CITY PARK

acrylic on canvasboard
11x14

White City Park is another lovely, public park filled with beautiful birds, turtles, and fish. The lake is covered with flowering lily pads and there are many trees with blossoms-the bottlebrush tree with bright red flowers and the orchid tree with lavendar flowers. I took many pictures, and settled in front of these tall grasses and lanky palm trees. I painted there for over three hours-warm but not humid, no bugs- pure, white ibuses walking right past me-peaceful, serene- a wonderful, gratifying plein air experience.

SPRING BEGINS IN FLORIDA By Cecelia Lyden

oil on stretched canvas

8x10

What a sight to see bright green foliage growing on bushes and trees in February. By the time we left Florida in early March, blossoms were on trees and flowers were blooming. I am remembering fondly those sights as I, and others, wait for winter to depart here in PA.

ALONG ALLIGATOR ALLEY By Cecelia Lyden

oil on canvas board

6x8

This is another FLA landscape, done from a photo, while I wait for the weather to warm up. It's nearly April and the temperatures are below freezing here in PA. Plein air painting for this 70 year old is not "on the table."
